Enroll now for Fire, Forests and Native Arts camps
Orofino,
ID-Students seeking a summer activity may want
to consider attending one of the "Fire, Forests, and Native Arts" day
camps taking place at Orofino
Elementary School on July
13-16 and at Timberline Elementary Schools July 27-30.
Camp hours are from 8:30-1:30 pm each day and a lunch will be provided.
Students must be enrolled in grades 4-6 during the fall of 2010 to attend.
Students will participate in fun, hands-on activities and experiments.
Activities include hiking, s'mores, games, and making arrowheads, rope, and
rock art. Students will learn about fire behavior, trees, plants,
campfire safety, air quality, and Nez Perce culture.
The Nez Perce Tribe and the Nez Perce National Historic Park have partnered
with the Clearwater
National Forest to
conduct this camp and two others which will be located in the communities of
Juliaetta and Craigmont this summer.
The camps are primarily funded through a US Forest Service challenge-grant
program called "More Kids in the Woods". The program seeks to provide
hands-on recreation and conservation education for underserved or urban
youth. This year, the US Forest Service contributed $500,000 to 21
initiatives across the country.
For enrollment or additional information about the camp, contact Courtney Couch
at the Kooskia Ranger Station, 926-6426.
