Think Before You Burn

Glove Giveaway

Keep Idaho Green is targeting debris burners with their 2011 Fire Prevention and Education Campaign “Think - Before You Burn”. Escaped debris burning is one of the leading causes of human caused wildfires in Idaho. High quality cotton work gloves with an educational safety message printed on them will be given away with every burn permit issued in Idaho during the closed burn season starting May 10 through October 20th, the time period when a burn permit is required.

KIG is making this free giveaway product available for all Idaho agencies issuing burn permits as a combined and coordinated fire prevention education effort.  The campaign hopes to educate debris burners on how to burn safely to avoid causing a wildfire. The gloves are handy for use when piling brush and or doing work in the yard. The gloves will hopefully act as a safety reminder. Along with the gloves, an accompanying message card which outlines safe debris burning tips and an explanation of fire danger levels will also be handed out.

Remember to be prepared….
  • Have a bucket, shovel, and a water source available when burning.
  • Watch the weather, don’t burn on or before a very high or extreme fire danger level day.
  • After burning be sure your fire is out cold to the touch.
  • If a fire does start, or gets away, call the fire department right away.
  • Always check your local fire restrictions before you burn – make sure you have a permit if needed.

Be safe – THINK BEFORE YOU BURN!
